Monte R. Parr’s outdoor interests were inspired as a child by his grandparent’s love for the wildlands, and numerous treks into the San Bernardino National Forests of Southern California near his boyhood home.
His high school years were spent camping and hiking the hardwood forests behind his Iowa home. Parr’s early adult life led him to Nebraska; backpacking and camping; exploring many of the pristine state parks.
He spent several years in Colorado, backpacking hiking and camping, including Wyoming’s Teton and Bridger Wilderness, and Yellowstone National Park.
Since moving to New Mexico in 1988, Parr has logged over 800 nights under the stars.

in Camping
and a large compilation of cowboy and western poetry and song lyrics. He has developed ”Monte’s Old West Chuckwagon Spice,” and has created many uniqie recipes for camping.
